Locked Door: What to Do?

Why a Lock Gets Stuck

What You Can Try (Without Forcing)
Sometimes simple actions are enough — but never force the key, you risk breaking it in the lock.
- — Lubricate the cylinder with a graphite or PTFE product (never oil or WD-40, which will eventually clog it)
- — Slightly lift or push the door to relieve pressure on the bolt while turning
- — Try a spare key in good condition
When to Call a Locksmith
If the key still won't turn, spins freely, or if you're locked out, it's best to call us before causing further damage. We will unblock the lock and, if necessary, replace the cylinder on-site, 24 hours a day throughout the Canton of Vaud.

What lubricant should I use on a lock?
A graphite or PTFE lubricant, specifically designed for cylinders. Avoid oil and WD-40, which attract dust and eventually clog the mechanism.
My key spins freely, is it serious?
This often means the internal mechanism or the cam is damaged. Don't force it: a locksmith can open it and then replace the defective part.
Do I need to change the entire lock?
Not always. In many cases, only the cylinder is replaced. We assess the least costly solution on-site.
